Understanding IT Future Through Science Fiction of the Past
Will and BJ are at DevSpace talking with Ed Charbeneau of the Eat Sleep Code Podcast about predicting the future of technology by looking at the history of technology and science fiction. Having been scifi geeks their whole lives Will and BJ have seen some of the things that were only in the movies or TV become reality and are looking forward not only to what else will come to exist but also what the future of science fiction holds.
Ed is a Microsoft MVP and an international speaker, writer, online influencer, a Developer Advocate for Progress, and expert on all things web development. Ed enjoys geeking out to cool new tech, brainstorming about future technology, and admiring great design.
IoTease: Use of Technology
BarCamp Voting
At BarCamp this year each person’s badge had a unique QR Code on it that when scanned by your smart phone would take you to a voting page. On that page you were able to vote for the sessions you wanted to be available at the “unconference”. I was able to talk to one of the organizers Jon Robinson about it and he said the sessions are always chosen by popular vote. Over the years they have had different ways of assessing the vote. The great thing about the QR Codes is that only attendees get to vote on sessions. While not exactly IoT, it is a unique use of technology.
Tricks of the Trade
Plan for situations where you are not on point and not feeling well. Will suddenly needing surgery and being out for a week showed him all the flaws in his down time plan. Think about what happens when you are tired, sick, or out of work and try to plan ahead so you are ready when these come about. Sometimes they can be sudden and unexpected so you want to have a plan in place beforehand.
